The Three Points

1. History of Photography

1839 – Louis Daguerre patents the daguerreotype
1840 – The first photographic camera
1888 – Kodak patents the first roll film camera
1932 – The first Leica camera
1984 – The first digital camera

2. Photo Techs
In the lesson we were told to go onto Sim Cam, which where we could play around with the aperture and Shutter speeds to create the same image as the one on the left. This was good because it showed me ways to over expose the image and also not letting enough light in. Also that the shutter speed plays a huge role into making the perfect image. It was quite difficult because every time you did a slight change to the speed or the aperture you would see a change in the photo, such as the foreground would be in focus and the background would be blurry.

Shutter Speed Aperture
1/4 sec f/2.8
1/8 sec f/4
1/15 sec f/5.6
1/30 sec f/8
1/60 sec f/11
1/125 sec f/16
1/250 sec f/22
1/500 sec

3. Semiotics

Semiotics is the way we process images.
The study of sign systems. It allows media texts to be taken apart - deconstructed - to show how meanings are created.
A sign when it becomes noticed acts to Signify meaning, i.e it acts as a signifier.
